Today I finished my first patch for the "Coat of Arms Wallhanging for Drachenwald" project - Shire Ad Flumen Caerulum - done in: Refilsaum, Satin Stitch, Stem Stitch
I think the red outlines are very striking but they make the whole appearance of the coat of arms more interesting... :)

Dear honourable Lords and Ladies, gentle members of the "Dragon's Needle Embroidery Guild" and "-eMail Group"!I want to thank all lords and ladies who volunteered to do one or more patches for the "Coat of Arms Wallhanging for Drachenwald" project and especially fru Renika Rikardsdottir for her great work in the Nordmark region, because she was able to find enough volunteers to cover 50% of the coat of arms of Nordmark.

Update...
Well, it has been quite a while since I last wrote. I believe it was the summer. At that point I was looking for yellow cool to make myself a heraldic cloak. After Civil Wars in 2008, a cold night at Pennsic this past summer and freezing at Fall Crown, I decided I needed to speed up the search. I finally settled on a lovely light yellow wool. I had been debating for a bit, as it's not 100%, but only 95% wool. The other 5% is rayon or some other synthetic. Grrr... But as it was the perfect shade and the best wool I could find, I gave in and bought it. Now the cloak is made and I need to add my heraldic devices to it.
Here's the problem. I've decided to diaper the cloak with my badge. Ummm... I need a badge. I have a device registered. I will try to register some type of badge with a St. Catherine's Wheel as the focal point. It will probably have an "H" on it or something else simple. Then comes the question of embroidering badges and applique them to the cloak, or just cut them out of fabric and applique them. Well, it's a moot point until I get the badge registered. So for the next few months, I shall have a very plain cloak. I've also learned that yellow is REALLY not my colour. Why did I pick it for my arms? Oh yes, because yellow goes so well with blue, which is my favourite colour, which I also look horrid in. Oh well. :-)
I've read her Majesty's request for Kingdom awards and largess. I am happy to help with this project and have taken on Panaches. So far I have made three. After a short period of panic over the size, I was relieved to find out I made them just the right size, at 2cm diameter. YAY! The Panaches continue. Here are the first ones. They are so small, that split stitch works up quite nicely and doesn't take too long. I'll add the feathers when I've stitched up all the squares I pre-cut.
And of course I've stepped up to the task of making some devices for the Kingdom Wall Hanging. I shall be embroidering Knight's Crossing and Vielburgen. I'm just waiting for the silk thread to come in. I plan to start the devices within the next month.

I request your attention for the following Kingdom Project - please take the time to read the project description.
I really hope some of you will consider to join this project - in this case please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

At the Guild meeting at University the Guild members decided to start the first (open) Guild Project - "Coat of Arms Wallhanging for Drachenwald" - a project to provide one or more wallhangings, depending on the response and how many patches will be made, that stay with guild members who travel a lot to events and who will take them to events...
I am sure that the project sounds bigger than it is and therefore please read the project participation requirements before you decide not to join because the part for the single member is rather small and easy to manage.
I really hope that many of you want to see the coat of arms of your shire, stronghold, barony and principality as a part of this wallhanging and therefore decide to join this project :)

- Fabric: linen fabric
- Fabric size:
-> Shires, Cantons & Strongholds: 10,0 x 10,0 cm (3,94 x 3,94 inch) + ca. 1,5 cm (0,59 inch) Surplus for sewing
-> Kingdom, Principality, Barony coat of arms: 20,0 x 20,0 cm + ca. 1,5 cm (0,59 inch) Surplus for sewing
- Fabric color: every color allowed
- Embroidery: every technique allowed
- Important restrictions:
-> Only coat of arms of Drachenwald shires, strongholds,...
-> Every person can make several patches but every coat of arms only one time!
(...to avoid a wallhanging only consisting of the coat of arms of three or four shires... but you can also embroider the coat of arms of your neighbor shire or a shire where your friends live...)
- End date: October 2010 (please send in your patches till 1st of October)
This project is open to everyone - you don't need to be a Guild member to join this project.
Every embroidery technique and skill is welcome - please don't hesitate to contact me if you are interested!!
PS: There is also the possibility to add a 'Totentanz'/"dead shires" row at the bottom of the wallhanging to remember some shires of the past that once were important for some of you.

Dragon's Needle Embroidery Guild - Newsletter January 2010 - 1st Guild Project "Coat of Arms Wallhanging for Drachenwald"
Dear honourable Lords and Ladies, gentle members of the "Dragon's Needle Embroidery Guild" and "-eMail Group"!
Taking a short look back at the last year I am very happy with the progress of our Guild - recently, Oct. '09, the Guild started its 3rd year and it now has an own Guild Badge and a registered Guild Charter - please forgive me for repeating this facts, but I am very happy that this two important issues are successfully completed yet.
I want to thank everyone who participated in the last embroidery challenges - even if some of us (including myself) didn't manage to finish their projects, please feel free to keep on using the challenge blogs and keep on sharing your progress with us!
At the Guild meeting at University we decided to start the first Guild Project - "Coat of Arms Wallhanging for Drachenwald" - a project to provide one or more wallhangings, depending on the response and how many patches will be made, that stay with guild members who travel a lot to events and will take them to events... I am sure that the projects sounds bigger than it is and therefore please read the project participation requirements before you decide not to join because the part for the single member is rather small and easy to manage.

"Queens Basket Challenge"
Some ladies showed interest in the second Guild Badge I made:

Therefore I decided to challenge the Guild Members who would like to own this badge - the first lady or lord who sends me at least 5 selfmade items for the Queens Basket (depending on arrival in my irl mailbox), will get the Guild Badge!
If you are interested please let me know - btw. I will post a picture of the items you send me at the Embroidery Workshop Blog :)
Please don't forget about the Queens Basket - Their Majesties can only give presents away if there are some people who provide presents for the Queens Basket!
For example - I will never forget my first coin at my very first SCA event nor the lovely embroidered hanky that I got when I received my AoA - therefore please don't forget that even a small gift has the power to make someone else very happy! :)
