New Textile challenge :)

For your information - a new Textile challenge starts first of June and I may forward you the following text concerning the new challenge:

"Greetings to the Populace of Drachenwlad
I come forth to issue a Textile challenge
This challenge is specifically set towards those that have not had the opportunity to sew a garment/object by hand.
Sewers that are experienced in hand stitching items will not be excluded, but this is meant as a chance for those with no experience in this realm to get a start.
The Challenge I propose is that all persons joining the challenge pick a garment or object of textile nature, no matter how small or large, i.e. a pilgrim bag, a Coif or any type of hat, socks, flag, gloves etc., and have at least one form of documentation for its existence during the SCA time period.
Acceptable forms of documentation for this project will be paintings/woodcuts/drawings with the desired object in it or a picture of the desired object.
The challenge starts first of June and will end one year later. People can join the challenge at any time during this year.
A blog will be made where all participants can post pictures and descriptions of their progress (http://first-timehandsewingchallenge.blogspot.com/).
All interested in joining this challenge please contact me at Gottfriedkilianus @ yahoo . com

Embroidery meeting at Double Wars

Greetings broiderers all,

Although formally, the Dragon Needle Embroidery Guild did not meet at Double Wars this year, many gentles that attended the event helped in a broidering project. To be specific there were lots of silk dragons that needed to be appliquéd to a silk gown, and many hands helped.

The list eventually reached 40 names, I believe, and among them were several Knights, including His Royal Highness Gerhardt.

The project will be HRH Judith's Coronation gown, and when it arrived there were four panels and four-score dragons. At the end we had two panels completely finished, one panel missing only two dragons and the last panel missing around ten dragons. The manner of stitching them on was a simple whipstitch all around the cut-out Albions, and so we could invite even the most novice of stitchers to help, the most junior stitcher being only eleven years old.

The product of this work will be seen at Midsummer Coronation, and I hope to take some photos of it there.

In service,
Lia

I'm still here and working!

pilecompleteWell I've got the axe and pile complete, now I just have to go round and round and round! I'm really pleased with how this one is turning out so far! The stitches are pretty even. I just hope I can keep my patience and keep them as even and small throughout the rest. I've decided to embroider the roundels on smaller bits and then sew them on seperately. This means that I can go ahead and put tthe hood together. This was the main impetus for this decision. The cashmere hood I embroidered for Odo is rarely worn, because it's too warm 90% of the time. The linen counterpart should not have this issue!
